How to care for your new furniture
Teak
Teak is synonymous with longevity. It is a dense, close-grained hardwood that naturally contains high levels of oil. These qualities enable the wood to withstand exposure to extreme weather conditions. If left untreated the teak will gradually transform from its original golden brown to an elegant shade of silver. If the former colour is preferred it can be maintained by applying teak protector.
Woven/Resin
Woven furniture retains the classic style and aesthetic qualities of natural wicker but is also impervious to the elements. Made from extruded polyethylene, it is UV-resistant and not adversely effected by temperature variations. The Flexibility of the weave also creates a heightened level of comfort. To clean off surface dirt and leaves either spray with a garden hose or use a bucket of warm water and a sponge or soft scrubbing brush. To clean the glass table top it is recommended to use and suitable household glass or window cleaner.
The elasticity of the weave will alter according to the ambient temperature. When exposed to cold weather the weave will become stiffer and contract, and when placed in warm weather the weave will become more elastic and expand. When the weather stabilises the weave will revert to its original form. This has no adverse affect on the structural strength of the furniture.
Cast Aluminium
Cast aluminium furniture is designed to be totally maintenance and rust-free. It is extremely hard-wearing and can be left outside throughout the year. It is electrostatically powder-coated, ensuring it is anti-corrosive and long-lasting. To clean off surface dirt and leaves either spray with a garden hose or use a bucket of warm water and a non-abrasive sponge. If a scratch or chip is found then it is advised to use a touch up paint of the same colour as the powder coating. Cast Aluminium furniture requires no treatment. However, if you would like to protect your furniture from general garden and atmospheric dirt then a cover is recommended.
Cane
Cane furniture should be kept in a dry environment and not left under direct sunlight for prolonged periods. If the furniture is in a conservatory then we recommend that you move it around occasionally so that different parts are exposed to the sun. Where possible, blinds should be used. Maintenance is easy. The cane frames should be cleaned by gently wiping with a soft, very slightly damp cloth. An occasional spray of any good furniture polish will keep the cane looking its best. You should not apply benzene, thinners, abrasive creams or other potentially harmful chemicals. Cushions should be turned as often as possible so that any fading caused by direct sunlight is evenly spread. They can be cleaned either with a little soapy water on a cloth, or with a dry cleaner fabric spray.
Textilene
To remove dirt from a textilene product use a pressure washer at a distance of no less than 1m away from the surface. Ensure that the pressure washer is not directed towards any timber products. Alternatively a bucket of warm water and a soft scrubbing brush should be sufficient.
Granite
Granite is formed through immense heat and pressure and is naturally resilient to extreme temperatures. Granite garden furniture requires minimal maintenance and can be left outside throughout the year. To clean off surface dirt and leaves either spray with a garden hose or use a bucket of warm water and a non-abrasive sponge. To protect the stone from stains or spillages it is recommended that coasters and place mats are used. To protect the furniture from general garden dirt then we would advise the use of a cover. Stone care kits are available, however if you chose to use this option then make sure you carefully follow all the manufacturer's instructions before use.
