The Reigate Garden Centre Plant Department
Fruit

With a little bit of care and attention a fruit tree like apples, pears, cherries or plums will produce a good crop of fruit in any garden for many years. Fruit is very easy to grow providing you do a little preperation. Unless you choose a self fertile variety you will need to plant two different varieties of a particular plant to ensure a crop. The overall size of the plant will be defined by the rootstock that it is grafted on to. Our fully trained staff will be able to help you with this. Should space be limited then minarettes may be the answer for you. This is a range of naturally columnar trees that can be grown in a container on the patio. Soft fruit like currants and gooseberries are very easy to grow and suitable for even the smallest garden, these to can be grown in containers positioned in a sunny spot.

Creating that dividing line between you and your neighbour or just partitioning your garden. Hedging plants are just plants that are grown close together to form a screen. As a result of this many plants can be grown as a hedge or informal screen. We also stock all the traditional hedging plants all year round and during the autumn and winter we have a range of field grown plants to provide an alternative.

Bulbs

When you use the term bulbs everybody thinks about daffodils and tulips in the springtime. This term includes a wide range of plants that will have different growing and flowering times throughout the year. We stock two distinct ranges of bulbs. The first arrives in August and this is the daffodils, tulips and crocus etc which will flower in the springtime. We also have a second range which includes dahlias, lilies and gladioli etc which will appear on the shop shelves in late January for flowering during the summer.
Houseplants

Why just garden outside? Every home should be filled with plants! We have plants suited for all rooms of the house including stately palms and figs to act as focal features and brightly coloured begonias and chrysanthemums to add a splash of colour to any room. For something a little more exotic why not have an orchid, these are a lot easier to look after than people think!
Alpine & Rockery Plants

Although most of these plants have never seen a mountain let alone the alps. This range of plants is ideally suited for a garden rockery or scree garden. There are many varieties that are suitable for creating small gardens in troughs and containers. The only thing that these plants demand is a well drained gritty soil as they hate getting their feet wet. For containers we recommend a mixture of John Innes 2 compost mixed with some coarse grit. Frequent visits are recommended to our alpine section as it changes throughout the year.
